The hype-free, hustle-free newsletter for employees that helps you build asset portfolios without missing bedtime stories.
I have 20+ years of experience as a working employee finding my own path to wealth without bankrupting my free time. You gain those years of experience in 10 minutes per week.
Your career can become the engine that funds lasting wealth—without sacrificing your evenings, weekends, or the people who matter most.
That's why I created Portfolios & Bedtime Stories.
This newsletter teaches wealth principles for employees who are skeptical, busy, and tired of hype. This includes if you:
• Have a full-time job and don't want to quit it.
• Believe time is more valuable than status.
• Want to build passive income that is actually passive.
• Prefer thoughtful investing over speculation.
• Value family, relationships, and experiences as much as financial success.
• Want practical ideas you can actually implement.
If you're looking for stock tips, meme coins, or promises of overnight riches, I will disappoint.
I'm Garrett.
I didn't build wealth by becoming a millionaire overnight.
I didn't build a venture-backed startup.
I didn't inherit money.
Instead, I:
• Grew up in poverty
• Began with a salary of $38,790.
• Never worked more than a 40-hour week.
• Paid off $160,000 of debt with my wife.
• Built my portfolio while raising four children.
• Created $5,000+ per month of passive income.
Money anxiety used to dominate my life. It literally made my physically ill.
Today, I never worry about money. I don't worry about losing my job.
I don't even know what day is payday! (I'm serious)
Every week, you'll receive practical lessons, strategies, and tools you can actually use.
Portfolios Segment:
The Portfolios segment is where I share what I am doing with my portfolio, including the mistakes. A highly effective way to learn anything is to watch someone do it in real-time as they explain what they are thinking and learning along the way.
Bedtime Stories Segment:
The Bedtime Stories segment covers the important things going on in my life from my job to kids and more. I share how I manage and balance my time and ensure that work does not get in the way.
You Need To Know Segment:
The You Need To Know segment is where I feature my take on current events that are relevant to your financial situation. This can include pivotal changes to inflation, markets, consumer protections, and more.
Cheat Codes Segment:
The Cheat Codes segment gives you the step-by-step instructions to implement money, time, and job cheat codes that will make your goals easier. I use these cheat codes in my own life to save money and time.
These segments are joined by other topics and lessons relevant to your wealth building plan.
My goal isn't to give you more financial news.
It's to help you make better financial and life decisions.
Money is important.
Time is more important.
The purpose of wealth is to create more freedom to spend your time on what matters most.
The single most important measure of a successful life is living without regrets.
It's true that employees can't get 'rich.'
Becoming rich demands your time; all of it.
Inherently, employees do not sell all their time.
Neither choice is right or wrong. What matters is what's important to you.
If you want to preserve your free time, you need to minimize the time friction required to build assets and deploy them. I've already done the heavy lifting and developed frameworks to make it faster for people like me to get started.
Budgets are important. They help you control your finances.
But budgets are like diets. They get you into shape but its your habits that determine your future.
At the age of 32 I burned our household budget.
Not because it made me upset, but because we didn't need it anymore.
Our income (cash flow) far exceeded our expenses. This is the point that budgeting is a waste of time.
Instead, I use that time to bond with my family and work on building my portfolio to earn more money.
When you no longer need your budget, you can burn it, too.
If you're ready to transform your paycheck into a portfolio of income-producing assets—and do it without sacrificing the life you're already living—you're in the right place.
Welcome to Portfolios & Bedtime Stories.
I'm glad you're here.
